Initial Review Note
All comments are based on adopted policy documents, specific City of Wilmington Land Development Code (CofW LDC) and City of Wilmington Technical Standards and Specifications Manual (CofWTSSM) requirements in effect at the time of this review. These have been noted after the comment as appropriate for your ease in further research. The City Engineer may administratively approve dimensional variance requests per LDC Sec. 18-348. If the Applicant feels further interpretation is in order, please contact Transportation Planning directly to discuss in additional detail. Please apply for all administrative variances in writing, an email is acceptable or this may be included on the plan set. Please see Sec. 18-348 of the Land Development Code for the information required to process a variance request.
TECHNICAL STANDARDS – NEW ROADS:
1. Provide the standard street corner radius for the new street intersections and intersections with existing streets. R35’ is the minimum.
2. Please replace the Traffic Islands with the Mini-roundabout proposed for the Hollingsworth and Road B intersection. Once the mini-circle is installed final comments will be issued.
3. Update the Hollingsworth Drive pavement markings to match the Mini-Roundabout design, (comments on the current Arbor Commons plan are posted in ProTrak).
TECHNICAL STANDARDS – ACCESS (driveway, sidewalk, and sight distance):
4. Wheel Chair ramps will be required at the intersection of Road B and Hollingsworth Drive and other locations that have sidewalk on both sides of a driveway or intersection.
5. Ensure to align the wheel chair ramps, and install pedestrian signage and marked crosswalks.
6. Please increase the width of internal crosswalks to a minimum of 6’. [Technical Standards & Specifications Manual CofWilm. SD 11-11, Pavement Markings- Crosswalk]
7. The pavement cross sections do not have dimensions or meet City standards for street sections.
8. If signs are proposed for the pedestrian crosswalk at Peele Street, please show them on the site plan.
9. The notation “Ridge” is shown on Sheets C-3.0 to C-6.0. Please explain or remove “Ridge” as necessary.
