AAA CAR WASH SOUTH COLLEGE ROAD [TRC Plan Review #2]
TECHNICAL STANDARDS – DRIVEWAY ACCESS (Major Thoroughfares):
1. Driveways for lots along major thoroughfares must at least 75’ offset from property lines to the curb line. [Chap VII (C) (2) (c) (2) of CofW Tech Stds]. The site does not meet this condition. Please confirm whether a variance is granted.
TECHNICAL STANDARDS – ACCESS (driveway, sidewalk, and sight distance):
2. Sight distance triangle is not shown correctly on the site plan. Please show the City’s 20’x70’ sight distance triangle at the driveway as per below image [Sec.18-529(c) (3) CofW LDC].
MISCELLANEOUS:

AAA CAR WASH SOUTH COLLEGE RD [TRC Plan Review# 2]
Initial Review Note
All comments are based on adopted policy documents, specific City of Wilmington Land Development Code (CofW LDC) and City of Wilmington Technical Standards and Specifications Manual (CofWTSSM) requirements in effect at the time of this review. These have been noted after the comment as appropriate for your ease in further research.
The City Engineer may administratively approve dimensional variance requests per LDC Sec. 18-348. If the Applicant feels further interpretation is in order, please contact Transportation Planning directly to discuss in additional detail. Please apply for all administrative variances in writing, an email is acceptable or this may be included on the plan set. Please see Sec. 18-348 of the Land Development Code for the information required to process a variance request.
TECHNICAL STANDARDS – ACCESS (driveway, sidewalk, and sight distance):
1. The proposed 87.5’ driveway exceeds the maximum width of a driveway as measured at the curb return/ driveway apron. The maximum width of a driveway at the gutter flow line measured between the points where the curb returns or driveway apron meets the curb line or edge of roadway is sixty-two (62) feet. [Chapter VII, Table 4, Note 1, pg. 7-10 CofWTSSM] Please revise.
2. Provide a NCDOT detail for driveway and proposed ‘NCDOT Pavement’.
3. The site has two restrictive radius points at the entrance and exit of the car wash, which may hinder safe access by SUV vehicles. The internal curb radius shows R11’ radius points.
4. Please provide Auto Turns movements for SUV vehicles and Full-size Pick-up trucks to show the vehicles can access the site with the R11’ radius.
5. The sidewalk that connects site to S. College Road appears to be reduced to 4’. Increase the sidewalk to a minimum 5’width to meet City Technical Standards. [Detail, SD 3-10, CofWTSSM]
6. The sidewalk in front of the Carwash building site appears to be reduced to 4’. Increase the sidewalk to a minimum 5’width to meet City Technical Standards. [Detail, SD 3-10, CofWTSSM]
REVISIONS TO NOTES ON THE PLAN:
7. Please revise notes #11 on the Site Plan (sheet #4) to reflect the following verbiage:
#11: Any broken or missing sidewalk panels, driveway panels and curbing will be replaced.
